Tresser l’ombre

Depuis l’intérieur, à travers le tressage de l’osier, nos yeux peuvent déceler les rayons du Soleil et en fonction de son positionnement, deviner la saison. Dans le cadre de sa résidence à Villaines-les-Rochers, pour son projet Tresser l’ombre, Clémence Althabegoïty a conçu une ombrière, en collaboration avec l’artisane-vannière Catherine Romand.

Dans un éloge aux algorithmes de l’astronomie mais aussi de la vannerie, l’artiste-designer tisse des liens entre l’univers de la science et celui de l’artisanat. L’objet tressé reprend précisément les trajectoires du soleil en région de Touraine. Il a été élaboré avec l’aide de Pascal Descamps, astronome à l’Observatoire de Paris et fabriqué par Catherine Romand.

A une époque où les saisons commencent à se confondre, cette installation est une invitation à une connexion aux cycles solaires, à la connaissance de notre étoile voisine, à un questionnement sur notre rapport au temps.

Tresser l'ombre

From inside, through the woven wicker, our eyes can detect the sun's rays and, depending on its position, guess the season. As part of her residency at Villaines-les-Rochers, Clémence Althabegoïty has designed a shade structure in collaboration with basket-maker Catherine Romand.

In a tribute to the algorithms of both astronomy and basketry, the artist-designer weaves together the worlds of science and craft. The woven object precisely reproduces the trajectories of the sun in the Touraine region. It was designed with the help of Pascal Descamps, an astronomer at the Paris Observatory, and made by Catherine Romand.

At a time when the seasons are beginning to merge, this installation is an invitation to connect with the solar cycles, to learn more about our neighbouring star, and to question our relationship with time.
